As our Full-Charge Bookkeeper, Lana Graham is responsible for all of the record keeping at Manhattan Apartments, Inc. Her intricate understanding of our daily finances and her close interaction with our Controller have allowed her to become an integral part of the financial analysis of the company.
Lana came to MAI highly recommended by our accounting firm, Friedman, Alpren, & Green, who were also the accountants for the company she previously worked for. In 2001, our President was seeking a bookkeeper to assist our Controller, who had the skill to keep meticulous records while also having the ability to help us review our books and assess what the numbers meant within the overall decision-making process of the company. The job description presented a tall order, and Lana had a rare combination of skills that would be able to fulfill it.
Originally from the U.S.S.R., Lana graduated from The Kiev Institute of Economics with a degree in Economics. In 1978, she immigrated to The United States from The Ukraine, and began her career as a bookkeeper for a fashion company, where she spent many years. Responsible for the original computerizing all of the company's books, Lana became an expert in a variety of accounting programs, including MAS 90, QuickBooks, Excel, and Peachtree.
As a full-charge bookkeeper, Lana handles all of our accounts, including credits, disputes, and reconciliations. The constant insight she offers has made her an invaluable asset in management's analysis of cash flow, expenses, and financial statements; and she plays an essential part in assessing effective ways to reduce costs and in implementing ideas to manage our overhead.
For the agents who rely on them for all of their financial and payroll needs, the members of the accounting team in many instances double as a "human resources" department. Lana is a rare individual who can maintain bottom-line efficiency and accuracy while extending warmth and patience to each person she works with.
